Desde há milhares de anos o caminho da humanidade para mais sabedoria foi acompanhado pelos burros.

Isto impressiona os amigos dos burros. Os amigos dos burros sao um grupo mixto tanto de gerações mais jovens como de mais idosas do Alentejo. Orientam-se na filosofia: Muitos tem os seus gurus, nos temos os nossos burros! É um caminho moderno, no qual o fócus nao é  decoração ou nostalgia, mas queremos contribuir à conservar formas muito antiguas da sobrevivencia na prática. E construir uma ponte para o futuro no mesmo tempo. Para o tal, organizamos encontros e estamos a desenvolver actividades para aplicar formas tradicionais do trabalho. Estamos fartos de só ouvir discussões sobre o lema “nao há futuro”. Estes mensagens esgotam as nossas energias, os quais nos precisamos para nos deixarem ser inspirados. Basta do fatalismo. O nosso grupo quer abrir uma janela. Queremos mostrar um caminho sustentavel da solidariedade para o futuro da geração mais nova. Há-de ser um caminho da responsibilidade consequente para humanos e natureza em todo o mundo. O trabalho com os burros nos deu conhecimento duma sabedoria global. Além de fronteiras religiosas. Temos um respeito profundo para todas as culturas. Foi Jesus quem entrou na Jerusalem montando um burro, provávelmente tambem Buddha viagou de burros de vez em quando. Com licença, tambem o Sancho protectou o Dom Quichote em cima dum burro. Um número imenso de gente pobre no mundo ainda possuem burros. Já hoje agricultores deixam de andar de tractor: O gasóleo e demasiado caro. Os burros já há inúmeros gerações coexistiram e co-trabalhavam. Devido a doenças, guerra e catástrofos tambem hoje muita gente tem que deixar as suas terras. Fogem para as cidades ou para o estrangeiro. Quando têm que ir, muitas vezes acontece com a ajuda dos burros. Os burros transportam as crianças, os bems, a comida e bebida. Somente um pouco de palha e agua exigem. Tambem ainda ajudam onde nem organizaçao de ajuda já  vai. O burro é o símbolo para uma maneira da vida que é simples e prática. O qual faz sentido. Feito do suor das pessoas e dos burros, sem que levar mais do que o necessário. Os burros sempre se recusavam dos servicos de guerra (especialmente das stratégias de ataque). Embora defenderam decisivamente as suas manadas, até contra os lobos. Se diz que são assim tao “parvos, manhosos”. Porque esta discriminaçao? Quem precisa disto? Ou: que stupido um animal tem que ser para aguentar tanto tempo com os homens? De qualquer maneira, os amigos dos burros sao capazes de estar muito manhosos. Os burros fazem muito estrume, o qual precisamos para uma agricultura sem química. Os burros tem uma atitude positiva: Conforme o lema dos “Musicantes da cidade de Bremen” (conto antigo de alemanha, onde os animais são os heroís): “Coisa melhor do que a morte se encontra em todos os lados”. Estamos muito gratos aos homens das gerações antepassadas. Apesar das permanentes repressões politicas, nos mostravam formas da vida simples e praticaveis. Viviam em dignidade sem esgotar os recursos das gerações ainda para vir. Estas pessoas ainda hoje nos podem ensinar muita coisa, só que, naturalmente, cada vez menos deles estão entre nos. Para nós é importante de manter contactos intensivos com estas pessoas. De documentar os seus conhecimentes, tentar a aplicá-los. As lembranças valiosas, as tradições familiares, o trabalho comum, a maneira como dividiram os seus capacidades. Quando esta geração falecerá, os conhecimentos vão desaparecer com ela. Os homens modernos, portanto a geração mais nova, terá que aguentar um uma perda irrécuperavel. Uma perda do fundo cultural cria a matéria-prima para ansias collectivas. Reparámos que edifícios antigos nas cidades são grandes attracções. Cidades como por exemplo Évora e Mafra. Os monumentos são admirados, mas poucos se interessam para a história como foram construidos, nomeadamente pelo suor de inúmeros trabalhadores es animais de trabalho como burros. Hoje nas ruas do mundo moderno as pessoas usam os seus carros sem consideração das consequencias. Mas vivemos milhares de anos com os animais de trabalho e só um século com a técnica das máquinas. Acreditamos realmente que podiamos esquecer os métodos antigos, as capacidades tradicionais e a vida comum das pessoas com os animais? Esta herança viva das culturas – vá pra a lixeira da historia?

Procuramos a ligação prática entre o coração e a vida diária. Esta é a nossa mensagem para as pessoas idosas com as suas lembranças e para as pessoas mais jovens que dispõem das tecnologias novas, mas ja perderam o accesso aos conhecimentos tradicionais.

Se vais comprar algo para decorar o teu lar, o que e que tu fazes? Tomas algo de exterior, pegas num prego e penduras a coisa no parede. Olhas no qual que compraste. Na lingua portuguesa, os termos  “coração” e “decoração” têm um significado muito semelhante. A palavra “coração” se encontra em ambos os termos. Nao temos que pendurar o nosso coração na parede. Queremos ajudar a trazer juntos as corações das pessoas e preservar os conhecimentos tradicionais para o futuro. Dia por dia com a mudança das gerações o conhecimento tradicional sobre técnicas de construção, trabalho do campo e métodos de cura natural se perdem e há poucos que tomam o espaço dos antepassados e preservam este conhecimento. A evolução duma “nova inteligência da energia” é uma das tarefas mais urgentes do nosso presente. Conceitos sustentaveis precisam da integração destas mesmas tradições. Técnicas modernas decentrais, energias regenerativas como energia solar, energia do vento entre outras podem reatar directamente á essas tradições. O conhecimento sobre plantas de cura natural e agricultura biologica, construção biologica é cada vez mais actual. Pois estes métodos até por medicina e técnica mais moderna nao podem ser substituidos.  O passado mais recente com a inversão dramática dos valores e com a destruição das nossas condições básicas da vida é um caminho errado. Para trás para o futuro. Aprender dos enganos. É não perder os burros, senão vamos perder a sabedoria mais antiga da cooperação com eles. Estar prontos para a cooperação e a nossa orientação. Orientada aos nossos valores básicos, que antigamente, hoje e no futuro podem ajudar a preservar a terra para todos os seres vivos. Os burros são exemplares ideais, mostram como e que vai, em todas as qualidades! Como companheiros dos homens são campeões do mundo permanentes em competencias sociais e ecológicas = sabedoria. Modéstia é a força deles, um demais lhes faz doentes imediatamente. Isto é que nós parece conhecido? Vivemos em tempos perigosos. Não podemos perder mais tempo. Todos que tem interesse podem participar neste projecto prático. Pode-se adquirir conhecimentes e capacidades tradicionais. Ou se traz conhecimentos e capacidades de técnicas alternativas para serem integrados no projecto.  Neste processo a balança entre homens e meio ambiente está no primeiro plano, na aplicação prática. Organizamos workshops de trabalho com burros e cursos sobre uma vida em sustentabilidade. “Coaching by Burros” é uma oferta curadora, não só para crianças hiperactivas. Regularmente fazemos “conferencias”. Para tal, estamos no caminho junto com os burros, visitamos pessoas no campo que ainda vivem da economia existencial. Eles são os que nós podem prestar informaçção sobre alternativas oportunas. Sobre o lema “simples – practicavel – bom” nos sustentamos directamente do ambiente por grande parte e desistimos da utilização de energias não renováveis.

Seit Jahrtausenden wurde der Weg der Menschen zu mehr globaler Weisheit eng von Eseln begleitet.

Das beeindruckt die Freunde der Esel. Die Freunde der Esel ist eine gemischte Gruppe der jüngeren und älteren Generation im Alentejo. Sie orientieren sich an der Philosophie: viele haben ihre Gurus, wir haben unsere Burros. Es ist ein moderner Weg, wobei es uns nicht um Dekoration oder Nostalgie geht, wir wollen dazu beitragen uralte Überlebensformen praktisch zu erhalten. Gleichzeitig eine Brücke in die Zukunft schlagen. Dazu organisieren wir Treffen und entwickeln Aktivitäten um traditionelle Formen der Arbeit anzuwenden. Wir sind es leid nur Diskussionen unter dem Motto „es gibt keine Zukunft“ anzuhören. Derartige Botschaften verbrauchen unsere Energien, die wir  brauchen um uns inspirieren zu lassen. Weg vom Fatalismus. Unsere Gruppe will ein Fenster öffnen. Wir wollen einen nachhaltigen Weg der Solidarität für die Zukunft der jüngeren Generation aufzeigen. Es soll ein Weg konsequenter Verantwortung für Menschen und Natur überall in der Welt sein. Die Arbeit mit den Eseln hat uns Einsicht in eine globale Weisheit gegeben. Über religiöse Grenzen hinaus. Wir haben großen Respekt für alle Kulturen. Es war Jesus der auf einem Esel in Jerusalem einzog, wohl auch Buddha reiste dann und wann auf Eseln. Mit Verlaub auch Sancho beschütze Don Quixote auf einem Esel. Unüberschaubar viele arme Menschen auf der Welt haben noch Esel. Sie haben über unzählige Generationen mit gelebt und gearbeitet. Auf Grund von Krankheit, Krieg und Katastrophen müssen auch heute immer mehr Menschen ihre Heimat verlassen. Sie flüchten in die Städte oder ins Ausland. Wenn sie gehen müssen geschieht dies oftmals mit der Hilfe der Esel. Die Esel transportieren ihre Kinder ihr Hab und Gut, ihr Essen und Trinken. Nur etwas Stroh und Wasser verlangen sie. Sie helfen auch dort noch, wo keine Hilfsorganisation mehr hingeht. In der Bürger-kriegsregion in Kolumbien gibt es einen Biblioburro. Seit zehn Jahren zieht Sorianos mit seinem Esel zu den Farmarbeitern und deren Kindern und leiht ihnen kostenlos Bücher. Nur so erfahren sie etwas über die Welt dort draussen.

Der Burro oder Esel ist das Symbol für eine Lebensweise die praktisch und einfach ist. Die Sinn macht. Gemacht mit dem Schweiss der Leute und der Esel, ohne mehr zu nehmen als notwendig. Esel haben immer den ( Angriffs )Kriegsdienst verweigert. Obwohl sie ihre Herde entschlossen, selbst gegen Wölfe verteidigen. Sie sind ja angeblich so „dumm, störrisch“. Warum diese Herabsetzung? Wer braucht so etwas? Oder wie dumm muss ein Tier sein, um es solange bei den Menschen auszuhalten? Jedenfalls können die Amigos dos Burros ganz schön störrisch sein. Esel machen viel Mist, den brauchen wir für den Anbau ohne Chemie. Esel haben eine positive Grundhaltung. Nach dem Motto der Bremer Stadtmusikanten:  was Besseres als den Tod finden wir überall.   

Wir sind den Menschen aus vorherigen Generationen sehr dankbar. Trotz der ständigen politischen Repression haben sie uns einfache und praktische Lebensformen aufgezeigt. Sie haben in Würde gelebt ohne die Ressourcen zukünftiger Generationen zu verbrauchen. Diese Menschen können uns heute noch viel vermitteln, es werden jedoch natürlicherweise immer weniger. Uns liegt es daran intensive Kontakte zu diesen Menschen zu pflegen. Ihr Wissen zu dokumentieren, versuchen es anzuwenden. Die wertvollen Erinnerungen, ihre familiären Traditionen, die gemeinsame Arbeit, die Art und Weise wie sie ihre Fähigkeiten geteilt haben. Wenn diese Generation stirbt, werden diese Kenntnisse mit ihr verschwinden. Die modernen Menschen, also die jüngere Generation muss einen unwiederbringlichen Verlust hinnehmen.

Ein Verlust des kulturellen Hintergrundes schafft den Rohstoff für kollektive Ängste.

Uns fällt es auf, dass alte Bauwerke in den Städten eine große Attraktionen sind. Städte wie zum Beispiel Evora und Mafra. Die Monumente werden bestaunt, die Entstehungsgeschichte interessiert nur wenige. Nämlich der Schweiß unzähliger Arbeiter und Arbeitstiere wie Esel. Heute auf den Straßen der modernen Welt benutzen die Leute ihre Autos, ohne Rücksicht auf die Folgen. Wir haben aber tausende von Jahren mit den Arbeitstieren gelebt und erst ein Jahrhundert mit der Maschinentechnik. Glauben wir wirklich wir könnten die früheren Methoden, die traditionelle Fähigkeiten und das gemeinsame Leben der Menschen mit den Tieren vergessen? Dieses lebendige Kulturerbe  - ab auf den Schrottplatz der Geschichte?

Wir suchen die praktische Verbindung zwischen dem Herzen und dem täglichem Leben. Dies ist unsere Botschaft an die alten Leute mit ihren Erinnerungen und an die jüngeren Menschen die über die neuen Technologien verfügen, aber nicht mehr den Zugang zu traditionellen Wissen haben.

Wenn du für deine Wohnung etwas zum dekorieren kaufst. Was machst du dann? Du nimmst etwas Äußerliches und nagelst es an die Wand. Schaust es dir an. Im portugiesischen gibt es die Begriffe coração und decoração die eine ganz ähnliche Bedeutung haben. In beiden steckt das Wort „coração“, also das Wort für Herz. Wir müssen nicht das Herz an die Wand hängen. Wir wollen helfen die Herzen der Menschen zusammen zu bringen und die traditionellen Fähigkeiten für die Zukunft bewahren. Tag täglich geht mit dem Generationswechsel das traditionelle Wissen über Bautechnik, Landarbeit und Naturheiltechnik verloren und es gibt nur sehr wenige, die den Platz der Vorfahren einnehmen und dieses Wissen bewahren. Die Entwicklung einer „neuen Energieintelligenz“ ist eine der dringendsten Aufgaben in unserer Gegenwart. Nachhaltige Konzepte brauchen die Integration eben dieser Überlieferungen. Moderne dezentrale Techniken, Solar- Wind- und andere Formen regenerativer Energie können direkt an diesen Überlieferungen anknüpfen. Das Wissen um alte Naturheilpflanzen, biologischen Bau /Anbau wird wieder aktueller. Denn diese Methoden können selbst mit modernster Medizin und Technik in der Bau und Landwirtschaft nicht ersetzt werden.

Die jüngste Vergangenheit, mit der dramatischen Umkehrung der Werte und Zerstörung unserer Lebensgrundlagen, ist ein Irrweg. Zurück in die Zukunft. Aus den Irrtümern lernen.

In Zentralanatolien stieg mit dem hohen Ölpreis die Nachfrage an Eseln rasant an. Im Dorf Lök beispielsweise sind die Bauern von ihren Traktoren auf Esel umgestiegen. Existenzwirtschaft wird so von der Ölpreisspekulation abgekoppelt. 

Nicht die Esel verlieren, wir verlieren das uralte Wissen um die Zusammenarbeit mit ihnen. 

Bereitschaft zur Kooperation ist unsere Orientierung. Ausgerichtet an den Grundwerten, die früher, heute und in Zukunft die Erde für alle Lebewesen bewahren helfen können.

Esel sind  ideale Vorbilder, sie zeigen wie es geht, in allen Qualitäten! Sie als Gefährten der Menschen sind Dauerweltmeister in sozialer und ökologischer Kompetenz = Weisheit.

Genügsamkeit ist ihre Stärke, ein zuviel macht sie sofort krank. Ist das uns bekannt?

Wir leben in gefährlichen Zeiten. Wir dürfen keine Zeit mehr verlieren. Und Jeder der sich angesprochen fühlt kann in dieses praktische Projekt einsteigen. Man kann sich traditionelle Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten aneignen. Oder man bringt Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten aus alternativen Techniken mit ein. In diesem Prozess steht die Balance zwischen Menschen und  Umwelt im Vordergrund,  in der praktischen Anwendung. Wir organisieren Workshops zur Arbeit mit den Eseln und Kurse über ein Leben in Nachhaltigkeit. Coaching by Burros ist ein heilsames Angebot, nicht nur für hyperaktive Kinder.  Regelmäßig halten wir „Konferenzen“ ab. Dazu sind wir gemeinsam mit den Eseln unterwegs, besuchen Menschen auf dem Land, die uns Auskunft geben können. Die zeitgemässe Alternative zum Auto. Unter dem Motto „einfach - praktisch - gut“ versorgen wir uns überwiegend aus dem direkten Umfeld und verzichten auf den Einsatz von nicht erneuerbaren Energien.

Who are “Amigos dos burros”?

In the Alentejo region of Portugal a mixed group from all the generations, young and old, have joined together to form “Amigos dos Burros”. We meet socially for conferences, to arrange our activities, and to help work the land in the traditional ways. It is part of our heritage, but we are the new generations and the old ones, a heritage that was once limited by the blood line but now extends to all races and cultures.

We are tired of listening to people who say, “there is no future …” this filters out the energy that inspires us. Our group is inspired to open a way out of the fatalism with some solidarity, to protect and to show a way for the future generations. It is a way for us to be strong for our responsibility with people like us everywhere in the world.

“You have your gurus, we have our burros!”

Through our working with the donkeys we have the contact with the global wisdom. We have great respect for all cultures. Wasn’t it Jesus who went into Jerusalem on a donkey. For sure the Buddha rode one too. Some people nowadays have gurus – but we have our burros!

Many poor peoples over the world have donkeys. They lived and worked with them for countless generations. Due to disease, war and catastrophe, we often see peasant peoples having to leave their communities, to migrate to the cities, to other countries. When they have to go it is often with the help of the donkeys, who brings their food and water, for no payment. Just some straw or rough vegetation is all they ask for.

The burro, or donkey, is a symbol for a way of life that was practical and simple, that made sense – made with the sweat of the people and their donkeys. But many of the descendants of these times now live in the cities or in the streets, but they still retain valuable memories of a more simple life, their family traditions, of working together sharing traditional skills, hard times and the good ones. But when they die their skills go with them. It is the modern people, our younger generation, who will loose out.

Here in Portugal we still have some old cities where donkeys are working and where you can still see the signs of how they built them in the past, like Evora and Mafra.

Especially in the cities, but in all the streets of our modern world, people are going by car. But we have lived with the working animals for thousands of years and just a century with the machines. For just forty years, a generation or two, the petrol engine has become common. But do we really think that we can so easily forget the past ways, the traditional skills and cooperative living between people and the animals,that sustained our lives and our environment?

The modern way — with “coração” or “decoração”?

When you buy some decoration for your house, what are you doing? You put something of your heart out and fix it on the wall and now you see it. But, in Portuguese the word “decoração” and “coração” – the word for “heart” you see is the same word. We don’t need to put the heart on the wall. We need to bring the heart inside each other, the Soul of our People, to save the culture and the traditional skills of living for our future – for every day the old people who know the old ways of building and crafting, working the land, of natural medicines, of wisdom are dying and very few take their place.

“To reconnect to the heart and to the life that sustains us”, this is our message to the old people with their memories, and to the young people who only have technology and do not have the old ones to teach them the traditional ways.

“Energy intelligence” for our new heritage

For our future we need “energy intelligence”, to survive well with solar energy and other natural technology. We need the medicine of plants for they also give us food and materials for shelter. We need to relearn the traditional ways from the old ones and adapt them with the natural technology that is available to us. To join our heritage with the new, and living in a cooperative spirit, this will ensure our future.

How can People support and get involved?

We are living in dangerous times. There is no time anymore to protect this old knowledge – our culture from the past. Ours is a practical project. We practise by doing, by relearning the traditional skills that held people and land in balance. We combine the traditions with permaculture methods and with simple technology. We run workshops and courses on living sustainably. And we welcome anyone who desires to know how to live and work with these native animals who are also our friends.
